UNE PRAIRIE
with Sophie Grassart
Audience: Three classes of Rouen schools, from Grande section to CE1.
Location: Rouen
Timing: Six hours of painting, ceramics and drawing workshops per class.
After the arrival of spring and a visit to the La Rose est sans pourquoi exhibition at the Centre photographique Rouen Normandie, artist Sophie Grassart worked with the classes to create a large meadow for display in the school.
First, they had to grab brushes and paint to create a beautiful flowerbed on large plywood boards. Once this large collective painting was complete, each child shaped a pretty ceramic flower, its petals and leaves dancing to the rhythm of the wind, before enamelling it – always in bright colours. Once the dancing flowers and paintings had been hung on the wall, the children worked with the artist to create small invitations for their families. A tea party was organised in each school so that everyone could proudly show off their creations to their friends and family and to the whole school!
The results : The meadows created by the children are on permanent display in the schools’ common areas (hall, playground and playroom).
Scheme: “Édu’curieux” from the City of Rouen.
