CONFERENCE
Photography beyond the image WITH MICHEL POIVERT
Tuesday, December 5, 7pm
Professor of art history at the Université Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne, Michel Poivert is also a critic and exhibition curator. He is the author of numerous books on photography, the latest of which, Contre-Culture dans la photographie contemporaine, was published in 2022 by Textuel. This anthology of 180 works by 130 photographers traces the contours of a contemporary movement that tends to blur the boundaries between photography, the applied arts and so-called “plastic” works.
Michel Poivert is invited, on the occasion of Marleen Sleeuwits’ exhibition, to discuss the overcoming of the conventional notion of photography as image, and the affirmation of the “photographic” as a field of experimentation. Materiality, tangibility, substances, space, narratives, recycling, hybridization, making photography today is no longer just about making photographs.”
