Meeting with Jordan Alves, éditions Xavier Barral

A book : by Frank Horvat

Saturday, September 2nd, 6pm

The last book to be published during Frank Horvat’s lifetime, Side Walk offers an unprecedented journey through New York.
Seen through the prism of Horvat’s extraordinary talent as a colorist, the book offers a fresh perspective by integrating iconic photographs with never-before-published images found in his archives.

The images flow through the book like a dense and contrasting urban walk, sometimes rough, but always sensitive. The book also reproduces Frank Horvat’s notes, documenting his New York moments from day to day.

Jordan Alves, editor at Xavier Barral, created the book in collaboration with the photographer and his studio. Originally a graduate in industrial design, Jordan Alves turned to the visual arts and curating. Photography publishing then became an important focus and his meeting with Xavier Barral in 2015 marked the beginning of a professional journey rich in discoveries. His collaboration with the publisher brings him a taste for adventure, for encounters, and the editorial standards that are transmitted to him become a goal to be reached for all projects. Each publication is a dialogue with the artists and a singular object.

He will come back to the conception of the book, and will evoke the challenges of such a work of return on archives, during the photographer’s lifetime, or posthumously.
