The Centre photographique Rouen Normandie, a member of the Rouen metropole visual arts network (RRouen), invites photographer Baptiste Rabichon for its bi-monthly event Écoute l’artiste. The conference is introduced and moderated by Tania Vladova, professor of aesthetics at ESADHaR-Rouen.

Baptiste Rabichon took part in the group exhibition À fleur de monde, à propos du toucher and is involved in several cultural actions with the Centre photographique, such as Révélations, an artist residency at the Horti-Pôle high school in Évreux, and Jungle, a forthcoming project at the Jardin Saint-Sever, rive gauche.

In a relationship with images that is as much critical as it is loving, Baptiste Rabichon explores photography in all its forms, tackling both the ancestral methods of photography (photograms, pinhole cameras, cyanotypes) and the tools of modern imagery, which he tries, always with the same jubilation, to push to their limits. During his studies at Le Fresnoy, his research led him to revisit the Camera obscura technique through immense prints, direct traces on photosensitive paper of scenes captured through a simple hole in the wall and where we discover the mysterious gaze of a female face in the middle of a strange composition, or to hijack an airport baggage scanner to produce astonishing still lifes using X-rays, thus transforming the control tool into a poetic machine. Today, the heart of his work consists in the realization of unique photographs, where through a multitude of steps, digital and silver are intertwined on a single photosensitive support.

Baptiste Rabichon lives and works in Paris. A graduate of the Beaux-Arts de Paris and the Studio national des arts contemporains – Le Fresnoy, he is a laureate of the BMW residency (2017) and the Picto Foundation residency (2021). He has exhibited at the Rencontres d’Arles (2018) and the Centre d’art contemporain de Nîmes (2019).
