PLEIN LES YEUX ! An animal-themed history of the children’s photobook
Exhibition from October 10, 2026 to January 30, 2027.
To mark the bicentenary of the birth of photography, the exhibition Plein les yeux ! celebrates both childhood and history by exploring the children’s photo book. Although long overlooked, it has proved to be an art form in its own right, one that photographers embraced with enthusiasm from the outset, demonstrating great inventiveness in creating fiction, educational books and innovative picture albums based on their images.
Through the lens of animal imagery, the exhibition highlights the diverse forms of the children’s photo book – from the documentary work to the visual narrative, from the aesthetic manifesto to the poetic picture book. Combining modern and vintage books and prints, it brings together works by David Crossley, Dominique Darbois, Robert Doisneau, Charles Fréger, Tana Hoban, Frank Horvat, Xavier Lambours, Thérèse Le Prat, Jean Lecointre, Marc Riboud, Alexandre Rodtchenko, Jean Tourane, Tomi Ungerer, William Wegman and Ylla.
Associate curator: Laurence Le Guen.
