CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOPS
The words are also images with Gabrielle Schaff
Saturday 8 March, 10am-11.30am; 11.30am-1pm; Thursday 20 March, 6-7.30pm; 7.30pm-9pm;
Wednesday 16 April, 10am-11.30am; 11.30am-1pm; Thursday 24 April, 6-7.30pm; 7.30-9pm
Take a photograph. Look at it. Describe it. What did you do? Another image.
If images in all their forms often inspire the act of writing, the reverse is also true. Letters are first and foremost drawings. Children learning to read know this well. And a text, with all its sounds, can produce mental images in the reader. We will play at making this journey from image to writing, then from words to photos, in the direction of the outward journey and the return. At a time when we take photographs as often as we breathe, sometimes simply to communicate by instant messaging, we will question the silent images that dot our daily lives in order to give them back their voice. This workshop invites you to travel in the imagination – your imagination.
Each free writing workshop, which requires registration, is made up of two parts. These parts are independent, but it is possible to attend both in succession.
Gabrielle Schaff is an author and director of creative documentary films. In 2018, she published a novel entitled Passé inaperçu (Seuil, Fiction & Cie collection). Her new book, a poetic dialogue, Veules-les-Roses, will be published in March 2025 (éditions MF, coll. Poésie commune).
