CAMELOTE

with Fred Margueron

Audience: Pupils in the general and SEGPA sections at Pierre Corneille secondary school and shoppers at the Le Neubourg market.

Location: Le Neubourg, Eure.

Timing: From April to June: workshops at the college and at several markets.

Located in the heart of an agricultural plateau, the town of Le Neubourg is also known for its weekly market, where photographer Fred Margueron set up a stall selling neither beetroot nor poultry, but offering shoppers a chance to create and exchange ideas about the contents of their purses, tote bags and baskets.

With the photographer from Rouen, among the “little baskets”, and amidst the stands of local producers, we set up a stall unlike any other. With his camera, flashes, tripod and a strange wooden hanging scale, the photographer invites market-goers to place the contents of their basket on the scale. When the pound is reached, the shutter is released and the shot is taken!

Prior to these workshops at the market, the photographer visited Pierre Corneille secondary school in Le Neubourg, first with two SEGPA classes to build the photo scales that were activated at the market. Then, he worked with a fourth-grade class on the landscape, photographed through thin slices of fruit and vegetables wedged between two sheets of Plexiglas, showing the sky, its clouds and the roofs of neighbouring houses through an orange or a tomato.

Feedback : The work produced during the workshops with the various classes at the college and the users of the market will be showcased during the European Heritage Days on 21 and 22 September 2024 at the Vieux-Château du Neubourg.

Programme: “Cultural Rights in Normandy Territories” from the Normandy Region, with the support of the Département de l’Eure and the town of Le Neubourg.
