CAMELOTE
with Marion Dutoit
Audience: Pupils from the Dupont-de-l’Eure primary schools, the Gilbert Martin vocational agricultural college, day-care centre beneficiaries from the nursing home and shoppers at the Le Neubourg market.
Location: Le Neubourg, Eure.
Timeframe: From April to June: workshops in schools and medico-social establishments, as well as at several markets.
Situated in the heart of an agricultural plateau, the town of Le Neubourg is also known for its weekly market, which visual artist Marion Dutoit is taking over with a stall that sells neither beetroot nor poultry, but offers shoppers a chance to create and exchange ideas about what’s in their bags, tote bags and baskets.
With a long roll of several metres of paper, a few brushes and a few inks, she invites market-goers to put down the contents of their baskets and draw some of the components in a few moments, in the sunshine, in the outpouring of colours and smells of the market. The food landscape thus created during the morning tells the story of what each person buys and eats.
At the same time, Marion Dutoit went to a primary school, a vocational agricultural college and the EHPAD (nursing home) in Le Neubourg to open the fridges and observe what the users of these institutions were eating. Using the same principle of food landscapes and the same rolls of paper, she got the public to work on representing the number, quantities, textures, packaging and colours of the products compartmentalised in the kitchens of the institutions.
Feedback : The work produced during the workshops with schoolchildren, day-care beneficiaries from the nursing home and market users will be showcased during the European Heritage Days on 21 and 22 September 2024 at the Vieux-Château in Le Neubourg.
Supported by the Normandy Region‘s “Droits culturels en territoires normands” programme, with the backing of the Département de l’Eure and the town of Le Neubourg.
