PREMIERS CONTACTS
with Arno Brignon
Audience: Around ten beneficiaries of the Mission Locale Agglomération Rouennaise.
Location: Rouen Left Bank.
Duration: 30 hours of photographic workshops.
Over the course of a week, a group of around ten young people walked along Rouen’s Left Bank with the photographer Arno Brignon. With analogue cameras in hand and film in their pockets, the participants travelled the length and breadth of the city before trying their hand at developing and printing. In a laboratory they had built themselves, they were able to reveal their shots in the various chemical baths. The group was also able to explore different film processes – even shooting in the view camera – and mix in more contemporary digital practices such as contact prints of photographs taken over the telephone. This collective work, in which everyone played their part and found their place, was exhibited at the Mission Locale. The project gave the young people involved an opportunity to play with photographic techniques and see the world (and themselves) differently.
A collective exhibition of the works produced is on display at the Mission Locale Agglomération Rouennaise, whose window on avenue Champlain was redecorated for the occasion.
Programme: Entre les images, supported by the Réseau Diagonal and funded by the French Ministry of Culture.
